As editors dedicated to SWTOR are well aware, the game itself is supported by a website: swtor.com. Its a treasure trove of information, and it has been underused on Wookieepedia. Hence the creation of this project, which aim to create a methodical workflow in order to siphon everything we can, while ensuring that we know exactly what has been or need to be worked on. And since we recently provided backup links for every swtor.com content already linked on Wookieepedia, it's the perfect opportunity to launch this project. --NanoLuukeCloning facility 11:11, April 21, 2020 (UTC)

Tasks

  1. Create a datadump (on this page) of all instance of TORweb
    • Class all links in chronological order (swtor.com urls often contain a timestamp)
    • Cross-reference with live content from swtor.com to make sure all available pages are accounted for
  2. Create a method of work to make the best used of the pages (to be determined)

Progress

Articles need to be checked in chronological order (oldest to newest) on the live website, in particular in the news, media, community blogs and patch notes (only content patch need to be referenced) sections.

Just before the release of the game, swtor.com was entirely redesigned, including the url structure. The "news" and "media" sections already existed before the redesign, but take note that the current version of those articles use an url formatted like this: http://www.swtor.com/info/etc. A great number of articles from before the game release were lost, but can still be found on archive websites.

Here's the level of advancement for each section, with the name and date of the oldest article to be checked. It is to be updated after every check, along with removing links from the unsorted lists and adding them to the sorted lists. Also, to facilitate organization, please work on entire page, and try to keep chronological consistency across the board (don't go work on a page that start in 2012, if another section still as content from 2011, for example).

  • Cross-reference complete up to 04.22.2011 and past 09.06.2021:

Note: while the url features "?page=1", it's in fact a link to page 2, because the first page don't include pagination in the url.

Discussion

I have been working on this lately. I've started in the first news since January 2019 and I'm moving onwards up to this date and then everything new as it is published. My work includes many article creations, image uploading and many additions to sources. It's really a gold mine. Keep up the good work. I should note that I'm not going to list here individual image page (wallpaper, concept art, screenshot) from the old website, as nearly all pages are only archived with text only and it's not really interesting.NanoLuukeCloning facility 14:37, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

  • I completely forgot about this: we can access flash content on archived pages with a flash add-on, and then access to the file, which is still hosted live by the swtor server! NanoLuukeCloning facility 12:50, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

Given that SWTOR.com stopped publishing media news around 2018, I'm going to introduce Youtube links (with {{TORYouTube}}) into the list. The paratext (description under the video) could still be interesting to take a look at, and it's the easiest way to access video prior to the website overhaul in 2011, but TORweb articles take precedent whenever available when it comes to list it in Sources or Bibliography. In fact, when confronted with a news article, a media article, and a youtube video for the same content, only the news article should be linked, so we don't burden Sources or Bibliography with redundant links. • After checking with status reviewers, please, features all links (news/media/youtube) when available. --NanoLuukeCloning facility 14:19, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
