Okay, so the existing signature policy (WP:SIG) is messy and slightly off-putting to read. While I've always been a big fan of lists, I remember that I found this particular policy to be rather confusing as a new user looking to make a custom signature, so I'm revamping SIG in order to make things more clear and concise. However, before I move these proposals to a CT vote, some feedback from everyone reading this would be great.

Proposed signature policy (diff)
Proposed supplementary subpage (new)

In addition to updating terms and rewording/reorganising things (thanks ecks!), I've made a few changes to actual policy:

  • Added a new section on how to produce signatures in both the Source and Visual Editors, since many newcomers seem to have trouble doing so.
  • Removed the largely redundant instructions for creating customised Fandom-wide sigs and instead--
  • Added instructions for making a customised sig on the Wook, with a note advising users with policy-violating customised Fandom-wide sigs to make another one just for this wiki.
  • Added a link to a to-be-created SIG subpage listing examples of custom signatures (proposed subpage linked above).

Addendum: the signature policy is probably the most violated policy towards the end of each year due to the Character of the Year (formerly Mister/Miss Star Wars) voting madness, and I know practically no one reads anything anyway but in the very slim chance that someone does, hopefully they would feel more inclined to follow the revamped policy :P In fact, this should extend to all newcomers with the policy being more comprehensible. To that end, I've updated {{Tilde}} as well. OOM 224 21:00, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

  • Rule 3, should define what acceptable links are so people dont link to their social page, blog or whatever Manoof (he/him/his) (talk) 00:53, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
    • Good point. To prevent links to places outside the Wook, redlinks, and long urls, I've specified that the link should be an internal link leading to an existing page on the Wook, with an exemption for Fandom staff (some of their signatures link to Community Central). • Rule 4, can we just say "...no more than two defined colours. Timestamp must remain black" Manoof (he/him/his) (talk) 00:59, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
    • Also given the fact that the default text color is white in dark mode, it could probably read "Timestamp must remain the default text color." 1358 (Talk) 07:56, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

        • Just realised this allows potentially three colours - two defined and the default. Is that an issue? Manoof (he/him/his) (talk) 13:37, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
          • Yeah, that's why the previous wording was so clunky, but really, given that it's just the default colour, I don't see much space for abuse. OOM 224 16:32, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
            • Ah, just found a better way to word it. This shouldn't a concern now. OOM 224 14:43, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
  • Can we add template usage to strictly prohibited? Manoof (he/him/his) (talk) 00:59, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
    • Done. OOM 224 09:01, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
  • Love the inclusion of VE and SE instructions, well done! Manoof (he/him/his) (talk) 00:59, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
  • As someone who didn't know how to make a special signature until reading through this, well done. Wok142 (talk) 01:50, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
