I am using Monaco, so therefore, do not see the search icons, so I don't know how this words in that skin. However, in the Monaco skin when you press the search icon/arrow without anything in the search box, it currently takes you to Wookieepedia:Searching. Not that long ago, it would direct you to Special:Search, which seems a much better option. Was there some decision in a Mofference or CT I missed where the change was decided? If not, is it possible to correct this? - JMAS Hey, it's me! 15:13, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- I recently switched my preference to monobook (after I discovered that it is the preferred Wookieepedia skin), but I switched back to Monaco to have a look at what you're describing. Here's what I noticed: When you hover over the arrow icon, the address preview in my browser's status message area said "/wiki/Special:Search", which is what is expected. But clicking it does indeed take you to Wookieepedia:Searching. But look at the top: it says "(Redirected from Search Wookieepedia)". Now look at the search box: the default text is "Search Wookieepedia". So basically, clicking on the arrow icon without typing anything in will use the default text and take you to Search Wookieepedia which redirects to Wookieepedia:Searching. I recommend changing the redirect of Search Wookieepedia to redirect to Special:Search. - Esjs(Talk) 19:35, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- P.S. In monobook, there is no default string in the search box, so clicking on the Search button without typing anything take you to Special:Search as expected. - Esjs(Talk) 19:37, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- It's always said "Search Wookieepedia" in light gray letters in the search box, and up until, I'd say, a couple weeks ago, it still took you to Special:Search anyway as if it was ignoring that light gray text. And I'm curious that if Monobook is the preferred Wookieepedia skin, why it is that on the Skin tab in preferences there is a box to check (which I do have checked) for "Let the admins override my skin choice. (recommended)" and right underneath that it clearly states The admins for this wiki have chosen: Monaco Custom as the default skin. Click here to see the code. So which is it? MonoBook or Monaco is the preferred Wookieepedia skin? - JMAS Hey, it's me! 19:53, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Monobook is preferred, but stupid Wikia won't let admins set anything other than Monaco as the default. FWIW, I still use Monaco as I've yet to have problems with it; I'll switch to Monobook someday if I start having problems with Monaco. —Master Jonathan(Jedi Council Chambers) 20:01, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- It's just my guess as to how the search box is now functioning in Monaco. I have no idea what has changed in the past couple of weeks. Unless somebody knows and can fix this, we still have my suggestion of fixing the redirect on Search Wookieepedia. Thanks, Master Jonathan, for explaining why the skin preferences page doesn't list Monobook as the preferred skin. I've always wondered about that myself. - Esjs(Talk) 20:28, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

You will notice on Help:Skin, above the central Wikia help content that is forced on us, instructions on how to make things right. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 21:05, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

- I just tried to change the redirect, and instead of smoothly redirecting to Special:Search, it simply displays the redirect page and forces the user to click on the link to get to the search page, effectively acting as a soft redirect. Apparently we can't redirect to pages in the Special: namespace. I reverted back to the original version, and it appears that we'll just have to either deal with it or switch to Monobook. —Master Jonathan(Jedi Council Chambers) 05:46, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
