In the process of drafting a page summarizing the events immediately following the Great Hyperspace War, I've come to the conclusion that the "Sith genocide" page should be renamed to a more general title—perhaps Post–Great Hyperspace War counter-invasion or something similar.

The event in question is generally referenced in sourcebooks and reference books like Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia, The Essential Atlas, & The Essential Guide to Warfare as a joint Jedi-Republic counter-invasion of the Stygian Caldera, not a genocide. While this invasion may have ultimately contributed to the gradual extinction of the Sith species as mentioned in Timeline 11: Rebirth of the Sith Empire, the various Timeline entries & TOR Codex entries like Galactic History 30 suggest that genocide was not its intended purpose—instead, per Galactic History 30, Pultimo desired to free the Sith species from its dark-sided corruption. Other sourcebooks like the Jedi Academy Training Manual & the aforementioned Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia indicate that the invasion's purpose was to oversee the demilitarization of the Empire & the destruction of dark side sites & artifacts by Jedi Shadows.

If Tales of the Jedi: The Sith War 1: Edge of the Whirlwind is any indication, the Jedi outright refused to kill surrendered Sith Lords of the old Empire & preferred instead to sever their connections to the Force. The Encyclopedia states on page 110 that the Republic took Sith refugees prisoner, with nothing being said about their subsequent extermination. The event is only passingly referenced as a genocide by Vitiate in The Old Republic: Revan as a means of stoking the fears of Sith survivors & encouraging surviving Sith Lords to take part in the Ritual of Nathema. As such, I believe it should be renamed a "counter-invasion" rather than a genocide.

As an aside, even if it were a systematic extermination, the event would technically be a speciecide, not a genocide, so the title should probably change regardless. SeboltoTalk 12:48, January 11, 2020 (UTC)
