The classic WEG RPG campaign DarkStryder featured five maps, divided between three books. Together, they showed a complete and fully detailed map of the Kathol Sector. The map segmentation was done so that players had to hand draw a map with instruction from the Game Master while they explored the sector.
A few years ago, I was still doing edits on a french encyclopedia, Star Wars Holonet, and with the help of a friend (who authorized me to share this map, btw), I did a montage of the five maps into one. Now I wonder if it wouldn't be interesting to add the map [1] on wookieepedia, presented as a fan "re-creation" in the Behind the Scenes section of the Kathol Sector article, to better illustrate what it looked-like.
In all honesty, I can say that the montage heavily modified the maps, while trying to be as much faithful as possible to the original material:
- The grid was completely redone using a sample of the original first map, keeping the same size, with Kal'Shebbol still at 0.0. It should be noted that the maps originals grids, while using the same system, didn't perfectly fitted together, and sometimes we add to adjust a few pixels here and there.
- I had to hand draw some of the dotted lines where the map where overlapping.
- It don't include any boxed notes or hyperspace travelling time, like the original.
- I did some cleaning of the black background, which was star-dotted.
- The Kathol Rift was quite a piece of work to integrate properly, and is the most heavily modified part of the final montage. We had to dumb it down to a simple grey color instead of the original warped texture.
So, what do you think? Should I upload it or is it too alien for Wookieepedia policies to figure on an article, even on a BTS? --NanoLuukeCloning facility 17:38, February 3, 2020 (UTC)
- While it's a pretty good map, and I love seeing the maps combined in this way, I don't think uploading it would be within our guidelines. By your own admission it is extensively modified, probably far past the norm we would allow for its use in the main article. It might work in a behind the scenes section, or linked out through the external link section on the article. - Sir Cavalier of One

- Thanks. I think I will just link it, and add a BTS bit about how the maps were supposed to be used by the GM.--NanoLuukeCloning facility 21:40, February 16, 2020 (UTC)
- Addendum: As suggested by Toprawa on IRC, and I'm ashamed I didn't think about it sooner, I will just redo a montage without any modification. --NanoLuukeCloning facility 10:49, February 19, 2020 (UTC)
