Happy Holidays all.
I was poking around the new guidelines for infobox galleries, and I believe that in addition to character, organization, and location infoboxes, galleries should be extended to droid infoboxes as well.
- Some droids have different configurations. For example, the E-XD droids swap between attack and protocol modes at will, as do Grievous' Infiltrator demolition droids.
- Droids as characters. Some droids change their outside appearances dramatically as human characters. Threepio's unfinished appearance in Phantom Menace compared to his golden covering later in the saga is just as significant as the difference between child Anakin and cyborg Vader. R-3X looks different as a shuttle pilot than he does as a DJ.
Ordinarily, I would just assume excluding droids was a conscious decision, but a quick trawl of previous posts shows no mention of droids, leading me to believe this was just an oversight.

- It's a bit of both; the initial proposal was to get the ball rolling so to say. The infobox image gallery proposal on the whole took several months of discussion, and then a few more months of discussion, and then additional time for backend development of the functionality. Due to the wide scope of articles onsite, trying to codify everything (such as all types of articles) at once would've further slowed the process, since we simply have so many types of articles, especially since each category has to specify the conditions under which the galleries can be used, or otherwise people could potentially mis-use them to show two nearly identical images for funsies. By doing the barebones proposal, we were able to release what we had and start work. Other than droids, there's also several other infobox types missing from the initial proposal, but as noted—and as is general precedent—the gallery tab proposal will likely be expanded once the initial rush has settled. This also makes it easier on editors as well, to have three categories of things to focus on and make sure its major subjects get the update, whereas the bigger we make the needed update pool, the more likely characters/locations etc. are to get accidentally forgotten.—spookywillowwtalk 19:41, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
