Heya, I've been looking at the Deletion policy, and I think it, too, can use an update like other policies lately. I've drafted a proposal here (diff), and would like to gather input about it from y'all.

Proposed changes include:

  • expanding the policy from being solely focused on speedy deletions to mention and codify all types of deletion (TCs, RevisionDelete, and undeletion)
    • in particular, RevisionDelete usage should be codified; bureaucrats and Fandom staff have been consulted about our current practices
    • undeletion should also be codified per the recently revised administrative autonomy policy
  • for the conditions for speedy deletion, the current wording is pretty vague and leaves room for quite a bit of administrative discretion (and thus potential abuse), so I think it's good to be specific about the types of pages that can be speedy deleted while keeping the wording concise
  • mentioning the {{Verify}} template
  • mentioning Wookieepedia:Dispute resolution, Special:Log/delete, and contact info

The clearer this is the better, and there's probably something I missed on the way, so your thoughts would be appreciated! OOM 224 (he/him) 20:53, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

  • I think this is good. Rsand 30 (talk) 15:14, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
  • Updated to reflect the initial agreement with Fandom that RevDelete could also be used for copyright violations and potentially defamatory comments, as stated in WP:TALK, and linked that policy and WP:DISCRIMINATION to define what Wookieepedia views as "grossly insulting, degrading, or offensive." • Correction: the rule of thumb for revdelete is only for privacy concerns and slurs, so I've removed "copyright violations" and "potentially defamatory comments"—the former isn't something we do, to my knowledge, and can simply be resolved by a simple reversion, and the latter kinda falls under privacy concerns anyway; it's just currently separately stated in WP:TALK.
