As per here: Forum:CT:Move_Sith_Emperor_to_Emperor_Vitiate I'd like to object to the comments by Darth Culator to which I have been subject to.
[Redacted by administration] -- Darth Culator (Talk) 16:35, April 9, 2013 (UTC)"
This comment was addressed to a fellow user and in some cultures/societies, this kind of threat could lead one to be subject to disciplinary action from the authorities. I personally take offense at this comment and take it as a personal attack. While we are not always able to abide by every custom, culture, etc we are a global community and while I do not wish to patronize or be viewed as preaching, I am of the opinion that users of Wookieepedia should still aim to treat all users with at least some semblance of respect. Comments/opinons such as these, I don't believe are representative of the community, just this particular user, despite his opinion otherwise.
These comments are of detriment to everyone; not just myself and this is not the first time that I, or other users, have been on the receiving end of such comments from Culator either.
For my own part, I have tried to engage fellow users in civilized debate. Yes, frustrations sometimes rear their head and yes sometimes users can be annoyed by other users actions but comments such as these are completely unacceptable and unnecessary.
With any other user I would approach them directly to engage them and hopefully smooth over any issues, however I'm of the opinion that any further interaction with Culator would simply be met with further hostility and contempt.
Where do we go from here? Rokkur Shen (talk) 09:44, April 10, 2013 (UTC)
- First, I'd like to clarify that I wouldn't consider this to fall under the clause of administrator abuse—"admin abuse" is generally considered abuse that can only be performed using admin tools. Now, I know this is just semantics, but I thought I'd point that out nonetheless.
- While I agree with you that Culator's comment was over the line and uncalled for, I don't think I would personally consider it as a personal attack. It's definitely not language I'd use to convey my two cents, but neither is it language that I would issue a formal warning for, let alone apply administrative measures such as blocks. One of our NPA warning templates contain the phrase "comment on content, not contributor", and is exactly the phrase I'd use to describe this situation. While a bit unclear, I think Culator was trying to direct his statement at the proposal (the third voting option), not on LelalMekha himself. As he explained in his later comment—which was far more diplomatically worded—Culator considered the voting option silly, not the proposers itself. LelalMekha also admitted below that he considered the relevancy of Culator's comment undisputable.
- That said, I definitely do not think the language used is acceptable or something we should condone as a collaborative encyclopedia. However, I still don't believe that any major consequence is necessary in this situation. I invite Culator here to explain his points and his choice of language — I believe that should be sufficient to solve this case. 1358 (Talk) 11:39, April 10, 2013 (UTC)
- I completely agree with you, Xd1358. I only reacted on the voting page because I thought the language was quite inappropriate, especially for an admin. That being said, what has been written on that page is only small potatoes when compared to calling another user [Redacted by administration]—which, quite conveniently, occurred on Rokkur Shen's talk page and went completely unnoticed at the time. "Less important" contributors have been blocked for less than that. Let's be honest for a moment, here. With all due respect to him for his efficient and diligent work as an admin, Darth Culator is prone to be rude with other editors. --LelalMekha (talk) 12:13, April 10, 2013 (UTC)
- I started this post not to raise the issue of his use of "silly" directed towards Lelal although I also do not agree with his actions there. As you point out Xd, he did come back and somewhat more diplomatically explain the comment. To clarify, what has caused me concern is Culator's use of "a well-deserved curb-stomping" which, as a clear indication of Culator's opinion of me, was directed towards me as an implied threat of physical violence. Something I do not "deserve". Placing someone's head on the curb and stomping on someone's head is not something that should be thrown around flippantly and most definitely is not language befitting an administrator. Verbal abuse such as this can also cause just as much harm as physical acts. It has come across that Culator wishes me harm simply because he doesn't agree with a point (or points) I've made. I do not condone violence in any situation. Whether or not it was a figure of speech or not is irrelevant. Culator has used the opportunity, commenting on Lelal's comments, to make a defamatory statement about me personally at the same time. Lelal as you point out he did indeed leave those comments on my talk page. From previous observations as an anonymous user, I was well aware of Culator's demeanor and way in which he interacts with users. I simply apologized (for whatever I'd done to tick him off - the circumstances of which I still have no idea, as he never cared to offer an explanation) and moved on not wanting to escalate the situation. Those comments were unprovoked an unwarranted at the time. Not once has he raised any issues that he had with me as a user yet has now laced comments with negative comments about me. I now feel that I should not let these indiscretions pass. Overall I do not dispute that Culator may possess skills that are beneficial towards Wookieepedia but I honestly and wholeheartedly believe from this latest incident that he is simply not temperamentally suited to continue representing the wiki as an administrator in such a negative and hateful manner towards other users. I can take comments such as these but has anyone considered the consequences of comments such as these being directed towards (or interpreted by) someone who may already be in a fragile state of mind? - I am not trying to "get ahead on Wookieepedia", blowing your comments out of proportion or whining. Please stop making baseless accusations towards me while questioning my intelligence. I took offense at your comments, simple as that. I've done my best to engage everybody here in a civilized discussion. I believe that you're unwilling to accept that everyone does not share your opinion, that you do not represent what everyone else is thinking and that you are not "usually right" when you say so. As I have outlined, I have been verbally attacked twice now by yourself, without provocation and completely lacking any sort of accompanying explanation. How else am I supposed to interpret such events? Rokkur Shen (talk) 01:56, April 13, 2013 (UTC)
