In A New Dawn, Skelly is a clone wars veteran, but he is not a clone. He was a demolitions expert. Why is this? In the Legends continuity are there any non-clone clone wars veterans? CloneMarshalCommanderCody (talk) 19:46, September 17, 2014 (UTC)

  • There are non-clones in the Grand Army of the Republic in canon. Officers like Tarkin and Yularen were non-clones who served and led the Republic during the Clone Wars. The number of clones (and this is me guessing here) were probably in the low millions, so in the face of a massive battle droid army, the Republic would realistically need non-clone recruits like Skelly. So while this is all a bit speculative, we do know for certain that non-clones served during the Clone Wars. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 20:35, September 17, 2014 (UTC)
    • But Tarkin and Yularen were officers, not troopers. The whole point of the clone army was so they wouldn't need to use human volunteers except for officers. Do you know if there is any widely-accepted source that says anything about that? I did a bit of research, but those books/comics don't seem to be very reputable. Hopefully they'll tell us more in Rebels. —Unsigned comment by CloneMarshalCommanderCody (talk • contribs)
      • I don't think A New Dawn said that Skelly was a trooper. It just said he was part of the Republic military force. There's also no canon source, that I'm aware of, that says the only non-clones were officers. I think it stands to reason that when clone troopers were used as infantry, there could still be other people with skills who were used. Other than Palpatine, the people of the Republic who were in favor of the war believed they were fighting for their very way of life, so it wouldn't make sense if they had a policy of "no clone, no entry" into the service. They'd want all the help they can get. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 00:06, September 18, 2014 (UTC)
        • I asked John Jackson Miller if he wanted to chime in, here. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 00:16, September 18, 2014 (UTC)
          • JJM responded. Here is his response: "The effort was enormous and touched many worlds, with many jobs you wouldn't use elite troops for. Combat engineers would've worked in support of the clones in some engagements; local militias would've had them. The clones are the Republic's fighting forces, yes. But the war was waged in many places with many participants. Skelly I imagined as a sapper or miner, in the historical sense. Dangerous, messy job. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sapper" I hope that answers your questions, CloneMarshalCommanderCody! :) - Brandon Rhea(talk) 00:48, September 18, 2014 (UTC)
  • For examples of non-clone personel in combat roles in the Legends Universe, you could try Antarian Rangers, or Kota's Militia. Ghostly Menace (talk) 21:06, September 19, 2014 (UTC)
