The result of the debate was Support proposal. Tommy-Macaroni 10:54, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
Over the past two months, I've been testing a project I've dubbed WookieeNights. WookieeNights will be an event, hosted periodically, in which Wookieepedians will gather and collectively watch shows and movies. The goal of this is to encourage everyone to get to know one another in a less formal, more relaxed setting. Over the trial runs of this, we have tested various methods of streaming, including Disney+ watch parties and individual watching with synced up times, and we found the best method was individual streams with synced times (by this I mean the host would indicate the specific time for participants to hit play, ie 11:38pm).
I propose that we formally make this a regular community event. The page for this will be located at Wookieepedia:WookieeNights. A mock up of the event page can be found here.
To keep some order during these events, WookieeNights will have a few ground rules.
- An administrator must be present for all WookieeNights events
- Wookieepedia:No personal attacks and Wookieepedia:Civility apply, along with all other site policies, and will be enforced.
- Participants must have a registered account, and 50 or more mainspace edits within the past 6 months. Blocked users may not participate.
- If you are in the voice channel, mute your mic when not in use.
- Don't ask everyone to pause while you get a snack, go to the bathroom, etc. Re-syncing times mid stream is annoying in a large group.
- While voice chat is encouraged, don't hog the voice channel. Let everyone speak.
- No spoilers. If someone participating has not seen it, don't spoil it for them.
- While off topic talk is encouraged, keep it civil. Avoid topics that others may find distressing or uncomfortable, and anyone violating site policies will be removed from the WookieeNights channels for the duration of the event.
To start, my proposal is one event per month, though these can be more frequent if participants wish. We would also create two discord channels, a text channel under #WookieeNights, and the associated voice channel. The voice channel will be entirely optional, as some users may not be comfortable speaking.
There are no rules on who can host a WookieeNights event, and everyone is encouraged to participate. For event setup, the host will compile a few ideas for the community to watch, with a vote held on the event page. Participants will be limited to one vote. While others may make recommendations to the host, the voting options will be chosen by the host.
