The result of the debate was no specific image policy. - Atarumaster88 (Audience Chamber) 17:11, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
It has come to my attention that species main images don't always have consistency. When we have a NEGAS one, a live-action one, and one showing the male and female of the species (or one from the Ultimate Alien Anthology), which do we choose? Should we have a policy at all? \/ladius |\/|agnum 16:16, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

NEGAS precedence
- I know that everyone will vote for no policy, but I believe that these are more professional.\/ladius |\/|agnum 16:16, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Live-Action precedence
- Live-Action and, if that doesn't exist, male and female...if we keep on using the New Essential Guide to Alien Species ones for no reason, then we're technically breaking the fair use policy. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 16:46, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- Live-action images should take precedence unless they are of notably poor quality and/or coverage (e.g. Quor'sav should keep its current pic rather than the leg silhouette from ANH as its main pic). jSarek 00:37, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

- Per jSarek, though I'm fine as long as we don't make the Essential Guide pics the default. That just annoys me. -- Darth Culator (Talk)(Kills) 05:37, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think the Ewok pic from NEGAS isn't all that good anyway. I'm sure there's a live-action full-body shot somewhere we should use instead. —Silly Dan (talk) 13:06, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- A policy may seem like a bit much, but "no policy" is what we have now, and it obviously isn't working. A live-action full-body shot should almost always be taken over an illustrated equivalent. An illustration full-body shot could be preferable over a live-action head-shot, but I think that could be decided case-by-case. But really, species like Ewoks, Twi'leks, Geonosians, etc. should all be live-action. Using NEGAS pics just for the sake of using them is silly, and it certainly isn't fair use. -- Ozzel 22:09, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- Anything that appears in the movies should (with exceptions noted by jSarek) be represented by movie images; G-canon=most accurate. I think EG pics should get lowest priority, unless they are the only quality images; otherwise, we become redundant. We should concentrate on highlighting stuff not so universally available--rarer images, for example.JustinGann 15:11, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Male-Female/Alien Anthology precedence
- Don't know anything about Alien Anthology, but I vote for male/female precedence. - Sikon 16:51, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

- It should be a case by case basis. But a quality live image should be used before a NEG or other illustrated image. - JMAS 01:10, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- Go with what's best for an article. It's as simple as that. Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- For kriff's sake, do we need an ironclad policy on everything? Just keep winging it like we've been doing--although in general live-action should take precedence.--Valin Kenobi 02:41, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Comlink 05:19, 15 January 2007 (UTC) - Live action should probably take precedence, but for the most part, just go with your gut instinct. -- SFH 05:36, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- I tend to agree with SFH. I think that a live action image should take preference but if the image is not clear or not full body I would favour another image such as from NEGAS. I think that if there is disagreement for a particular article a vote should be taken to resolve the issue. -- Volemlock 21:43, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Whichever image best shows the stereotype of the species should be used.Darth Ceratis 19:38, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Case-by-case. Having a set policy on images from all manner of sources from the past thirty years is just daft - \\Captain Kwenn// — Ahoy! 14:46, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- Seems to me most folks are automatically going to want to go with the clearest/most "real" pic available anyway, meaning live-action. But definitely case-by-case. Sionay 17:57, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- Seen too many different instances where different types of images proved to be the best. -BaronGrackle 14:40, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Comments
- The size, angle, and quality of each image should be considered, as simply showing a male and female, or being a live shot doesn't necessarily mean the image is going to be more indicative of the species than a high-res, close-in, full-body artist rendition. And ditto to Jaymach on NEGAS fair use even though he voted for Live-action. Wildyoda 22:30, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- The reason I brought this up was because Species Main Images are switched around almost every other day when I checked. And the thing I don't like about the Alien Anthology is that it has pics that mostly depict the species from a military standpoint, instead of normal-looking ones, like
