After discussion with several Wookieepedians, I have decided to go forward with an idea that brings something fresh to the Wiki. As I perused the categories, I came across the one that showed about sixty users claiming that they could read Aurebesh without referring to a chart. Knowing full well that I can't, I wondered if something could be put together that would allow us as Wookieepedians to test our knowledge of the in-universe alphabet by solving sentences written only in the text. Since we now have this font from the April Fool's Day joke, it could be used to create any message.
In order to prevent people from cheating, well there's no way to completely avoid that, but at least the page itself could be created in two sections: one to display the message or messages, and the second for users to submit their answers. First to get the message right without looking gets credit for solving the message. We might even tap some of these individuals to decipher instances of Aurebesh in many in-universe sources (although I was told that Trip does all of this already).
I think I will stop here for now before getting too close-minded about this. If anyone has suggestions for this idea, please post them here. -- Riffsyphon1024 09:00, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
- What do you mean by "credit"? Do we really need this sort of thing, anyway? -- AdmirableAckbar (Talk) 12:14, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
- The question is not whether we need it or not, but rather can we do something new for a change? "Credit" is up to interpretation, essentially I want to spur activity in those that want to understand Aurebesh better. -- Riffsyphon1024 11:03, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- "Something new?" As in, stop being an encyclopedia? -- AdmirableAckbar (Talk) 12:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- This does not mean that we stop beng an encyclopedia. This is meant to be a fun little challenge, something to spur interest and freshen things up a bit around here. IFYLOFD (And now, young Skywalker, you will die.) 22:28, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- Why not? I agree with IFYLOFD. We've had things like coolest/lamest, Ms/Mr SW and even other quiz pages. That hasn't stopped us from being a professional wiki. You have to agree that the first two drew a lot of positive community interest. SoresuMakashi(Everything I tell you is a lie) 04:52, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- Exactly. What harm is it doing to us? I'm trying to promote Aurebesh education here. -- Riffsyphon1024 09:06, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- It's probably about time I learnt beyond Esk anyway. SoresuMakashi(Everything I tell you is a lie) 10:45, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

- I would hate for this to set a precedent for Mando' a education though. ;) MadclawShyriiwook! 22:45, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well that might be a good thing. It can be controlled so as to not get too out of control I would hope. -- Riffsyphon1024 07:56, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, great. Now we're going to have mando'a ed too. Before you know it, there will be compulsory exam for all new users. ; )SoresuMakashi(Everything I tell you is a lie) 08:03, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm... A compulsory exam for new users. Actually, it's not a bad idea. :) (JK) GAdmiralPawn 04:27, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- This is not compulsory for anybody. Just those that are interested in testing themselves can try out. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:12, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

So it appears that people are evenly split on whether or not they like this idea, however I really feel that it could be a cool addition to the site, all the while reinforcing Wookieepedia's strive to be informative. I hereby propose a vote to get a better idea of the support/dissent. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:56, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Against
- Although it's a good, fresh idea, I can't bring myself to support it, because of the wave of users who will join Wookieepedia just to play the quiz game. Then of course, we have to create one for Mando'a to satisfy everyone else, which would just get annoying by having two quizzes instead of one to patrol. The real question is, what's the point of bringing new users here if all they're going to just play the game? Make them have 50 mainspace edits? No, it'll scare them away. It just gets too damn complicated and is just a pointless add-on when we already have stuff like Mr and Mrs Star Wars to attract new users. It'd be a vandal-target also. - It's a nice idea, but we're an encyclopedia, not a circus. Toprawa and Ralltiir 22:02, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Per DC. Chack Jadson (Talk) 22:07, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Per my doubts above. I question the attitude behind it and I'm not sure what it would achieve; most likely, it will turn out as messy as our last attempt to try one of these "fun things to get new users!" and there's no control to see if people are actually doing it properly so it'd be pretty meaningless anyway. There's an important distinction between "encyclopedia" and general "Star Wars site." -- AdmirableAckbar (Talk) 22:13, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Pointless work. Though if you wanted to change it to a basic English exam that they had to pass before they could edit, I'd be all for that. Havac 02:28, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

- Even though I participated in the Mr/Mrs SW and Coolest/Lamest, it always sort of bothered me that we even had them, and particularly that they were linked to in prominent places. All great ideas, this included. Just not on a site dedicated to being an encyclopedia. Wildyoda 05:42, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- Per Darthchristian, Acky, and Havac. People who don't want to speak English can go to the foreign SW wikis or Mandopedia. People who want to play a Star Wars game can go to SWGames. People who want to use and write for a Star Wars encyclopedia can come here. Though if we can find some way to implement the Internet Access CAPTCHA I'd be all for it. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 14:30, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
