At the recent Mofference, I proposed a complete rewrite of the protection policy, but it got punted to CT, so here it is. The proposal is at User:Master Jonathan/Mofference/6/WP:PP. It's been rewritten from the ground up to look and sound more professional and match current practice, sections on move-, create-, and super-semi-protection have been added, and new icons are proposed for those three forms of protection. I put that in italics because several people objected to them at the Mofference, so we'll vote on the new icons separately so they don't drag the whole policy down with it.

Issue 1: Approving the rewrite

This vote is for approving the rewrite of the policy. The proposed new icons (and the references to them in the text) are not included in this vote.

Issue 2: Super-semi-protection icon

This vote is to determine whether a special padlock icon will be used on super-semi-protected pages. Before opposing based solely on the color, please raise your concern in the discussion section; if several people would prefer a different color, I'll start a new vote for that.

General discussion

Since I opposed the icons at the Mofference on the basis that I didn't like the ideas proposed for them, I'll try and work on some different icon proposals. If anyone has any suggestions for them that don't involve a padlock rainbow, feel free to tell me. -- I need a name (Complain here) 15:56, February 25, 2012 (UTC)

  • I think it'd make sense for the super-semi protection one to remain a padlock, as that way a padlock would be associated with all levels of edit protection. For the move protection, an arrow pointing away from a page or something akin to that? Upload protection could be a broken upwards pointing arrow (couldn't think of anything good for this one)? —NAYAYEN 16:28, February 25, 2012 (UTC)
