On the article for Star Wars: Underworld, there are links to the now-missing Hyperspace files of the three Q&A sessions that George Lucas gave at Celebration III. I have these files saved on my computer, and would like to upload them to the wiki for posterity. Adamwankenobi (talk) 04:37, July 9, 2014 (UTC)

- We have already lost countless old Hyperspace information, let's not lose more. praguepride (Talk) 13:41, July 9, 2014 (UTC)
Oppose
- After thinking about this for a day, I'm going to vote against. While I understand that these files are critical to our ability to verify the information, actually hosting them could open up a slippery slope that could lead to hosting other Hyperspace stuff such as short stories and the like, and that could have disastrous consequences for us due to the copyright issues involved. These Q&A sessions would almost certainly be copyrighted by Lucasfilm as a public performance. Wookieepedia, by its very nature, is on shaky ground from a copyright perspective already, given that copyrighted material is the basis for almost everything we write, and I fear that actually hosting complete verbatim copyrighted materials (as opposed to individual screenshots/comic panels and paraphrased articles that do not replace the original work) without an explicit license permitting us to do so could bring down the wrath of Disney's lawyers on us (and Disney takes a stricter stance on copyright issues than Lucasfilm under George Lucas did). If it is necessary for users to gain access to this material to verify information or write other articles, email addresses can be exchanged in IRC and used to send copies of the files privately for use, as has been done on occasion in the past here. The smoking PSA video was one thing, because it is arguably public domain as a work of the U.S. government. But this is almost certainly copyrighted, and IMO we shouldn't be publicly hosting complete copyrighted works without an explicit license allowing us to. —MJ— Holocomm 05:46, July 10, 2014 (UTC)

- Wookieepedia's ground really isn't that shaky (that's long been a misconception here), but I do think this probably goes a little too far. Those audio files would be harder to justify with fair use considering you'd be uploading them in their entirety, plus the fact that the files were from a paid subscription service. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 02:06, July 11, 2014 (UTC)

In other news we need a reliable offshore server for hosting SW contentPer above. 1358 (Talk) 14:52, July 16, 2014 (UTC)- Corellian Premier

- Only as it was from a subscription service, which indicates copyright. If the copyright issue is addressed, then yes. Manoof (talk) 15:21, July 24, 2014 (UTC)
Discussion
Do we have a specific need for these files, such as using them in references? If so, that's probably fine, but we shouldn't be hosting them just to host them, because then we have no fair use claim. —MJ— Training Room 06:47, July 9, 2014 (UTC)
- In the article, they are used as references for certain details that Lucas revealed exclusively at C3. Without these files, we are left with sort of a bootstrap paradox (which is sadly the case for most Hyperspace content). Adamwankenobi (talk) 06:57, July 9, 2014 (UTC)
