The Floating jellyfish were native to the terrestrial planet Baskarn. They were great jellyfish-like creatures, nearly a hundred meters across, that used lighter-than-air gases to float across the skies above the planet’s extremely thick and deadly jungles. White and almost translucent, they fed on the small birds and rodents that lived in the tops of the trees, ensnaring them with huge, pale tentacles that dangled among the branches. They could be dangerous to tree climbers as well as hazardous to airspeeders or even starfighters, which might collide with them by accident.[1]

The locals of Baskarn sometimes climbed trees in search of food and waited for one of the great floating jellyfish to drift by. They carefully avoided its dangling tentacles so as not to be stunned by its poison. Those with quick reflexes were able to steal a bird or a rodent from the jellyfish’s clutches, already incapacitated by its venom.[1]

Behind the scenes

The floating jellyfish was first mentioned in "The Way of the Yrashu," an adventure for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game written by Dustin Browder that was published in Star Wars Adventure Journal 2 in May 1994.
