The Flamsteed was a large utilitarian freighter in operation around the time of the formation of the Alliance to Restore the Republic[1] in 2 BBY.[2] Manned by a small, peculiar crew, the starship flew the same uneventful route for several dozens of years, and on occasion, its crew accepted high-paying jobs to transport passengers to Yavin 4,[1] an Outer Rim moon that served as an important base for anti-Imperial insurgents of the incipient rebellion.[3] While the crew was comfortable with accepting these risky jobs, they needed to bribe key individuals along the way.[1]
At one point, while Axis network operative Cassian Jeron Andor and other passengers rode on the Flamsteed to return to Yavin, the starship was detained by the Galactic Empire, as the bribery suddenly became ineffective. KX enforcer droid K-2SO then boarded the freighter and sometime later realized he was trapped, turning the event into a lethal pursuit for Andor.[1]
Behind the scenes
- "The name of the ship in Alien is the Nostromo. Our ship was the Flamsteed. What I loved about Alien was always the blue-collar quality of it. So I made it a very blue-collar freighter."
- ―Dan Gilroy
The UCSS Nostromo from the film Alien (1979) inspired the Flamsteed.
According to writer Dan Gilroy, the Flamsteed was slated to appear in the scrapped "K-2SO horror episode" planned[1] for the ninth episode—eventually titled "Welcome to the Rebellion"[4]—of the second season of the Disney+ live-action series Star Wars: Andor, which aired on May 6, 2025.[5] The episode was conceived as a self-contained story inspired by the[1] 1979[6] film Alien, with the Flamsteed modeled after the Nostromo, a starship featured in the film, but budget constraints led to the the script being discarded during development.[1]
While Andor series creator Tony Gilroy initially described the Flamsteed as a "huge ugly tanker ship,"[4] script writer Dan Gilroy later characterized it as a "blue-collar," "sleepy" freighter.[1] This article assumes Dan Gilroy's description is the most accurate, given his drafting of the script that includes the Flamsteed.

Andor creator reveals scrapped K-2SO 'horror movie' episode by Dalton Ross on Entertainment Weekly (May 8, 2025): "They had to bring this huge ugly tanker ship to Yavin, and there was a KX unit that was trapped inside there hunting. It was sort of like a monster movie with K2 on it. It was really cool." (backup link archived on May 16, 2025)
