Morcanth was an Unknown Regions planet the galactic neighborhood of which was the subject of a centuries-long war between three spacefaring alien species. At one point, the corrupted Jedi Winslau Da'k imprisoned his former Jedi Master at a fortress on Morcanth, where Da'k resided in wealth and comfort. After the Jedi Master telepathically sought out help from a group of agents of the Rebel Alliance, however, the latter ultimately orchestrated an assault on Da'k's fortress and a successful rescue of the Jedi.
Description
Morcanth was an obscure terrestrial planet[2] located in the Morcanth system of the Unknown Regions.[1]
History
Morcanth was located in the Unknown Regions.
Morcanth was situated in an area of space over which, by the time of the reign of the Galactic Empire, three powerful spacefaring alien species had been waging a centuries-long war. At some point after the establishment of the Empire[2] in 19 BBY,[3] the Jedi student Winslau Da'k, who had become corrupted by the dark side of the Force, attacked and overpowered his Jedi Master. Da'k then imprisoned the older Jedi at a hidden fortress on Morcanth, where he subjected him to torture. Sometime not long before a point during the Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, the planet's name was changed, with its original name afterward only appearing in very old star charts.[2]
During the Galactic Civil War, Da'k's Jedi Master reached out telepathically to a group of Alliance agents, pleading with them to rescue him. The Rebels knew the Jedi was imprisoned on a planet called Morcanth but were initially unable to find it on any star charts. Eventually, however, they discovered the world and, making peace with one of the species warring over the planet's cosmic environs, recruited the aliens to launch an assault on Da'k's fortress while they mounted a successful rescue of the fallen Jedi's Master.[2]
Inhabitants
At the fortress on Morcanth, where he lived in wealth and comfort, Winslau Da'k was accompanied by a small retinue of servants and guards. Da'k's small private army included advanced starfighters.[2]
Locations
Morcanth was the site of a hidden underground fortress, the defenses of which included heavy blaster emplacements.[2]
Behind the scenes
Morcanth is the setting for "The Last Knight," a roleplaying adventure hook written by Bill Olmesdahl published in the 1992 supplement Star Wars Gamemaster Screen for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. "The Last Knight" suggests an optional modification of its events where Winslau Da'k employs a more significant military force, thereby forcing the player characters to seek aid from at least one of the alien species engaged in conflict over Morcanth and its galactic neighborhood. This article assumes the scenario plays out as described.[2]
