- "They're shipping me off to Vizcarra."
"The Imperial prison planet?"
"Yep. And here I sit, picking my nose hairs, with half of my crew docked across the street, waiting for me." - ―Tait Ransom and Karl Mathieu Ancher
Vizcarra was a Galactic Empire prison planet located in the Outer Rim Territories' Cegul sector. The Wookiee Syychi, who went on to be enslaved by the Empire, was born there, and at one point she and the smuggler Memcha-Badawzi—who was sentenced to imprisonment on Vizcarra—both escaped from an enslaver starship traveling to the planet. Similarly, in 2 BBY the smuggler Tait Ransom also escaped from detention on the planet Omman Minor before he could be shipped off to Vizcarra.
Description
Vizcarra was a terrestrial[3] planet[4] located in the Vizcarra system, a part of the Cegul sector of the Outer Rim Territories.[1] During the reign of the Galactic Empire, it served as an Imperial prison world.[4]
History
The Wookiee Syychi was born on Vizcarra.
At some point, the Wookiee Syychi was born on Vizcarra, becoming subjected since birth to Imperial exploitation and enslavement.[3] Around 2 BBY,[5] Imperial authorities on Omman Minor, a planet[4] in the Kibilini sector,[6] arrested the smuggler Tait Ransom for illegal handling of armor and weapons. In 2 BBY Ransom was held in the holding cells of Omman Minor's Bureau of Customs, where he informed his fellow detainees Karl Mathieu Ancher, Drake Paulsen, and Nikaede Celso that he was scheduled to be shipped off to Vizcarra. However, the quartet subsequently broke out of the cell and escaped the planet.[4]
The Twi'lek smuggler Memcha-Badawzi was at one point during the Galactic Civil War sentenced to imprisonment on Vizcarra for smuggling spice and being suspected of collaborating with the Rebel Alliance. She was sent on a long trip to Vizcarra aboard an enslaver starship on which Syychi was also present. The pair, aided by other prisoners, eventually managed to overpower the ship's crew and escape.[3]
Behind the scenes
Vizcarra was first mentioned in the short story "When the Domino Falls," which was written by Patricia A. Jackson and published in the August 1994 third issue of West End Games' Star Wars Adventure Journal magazine.[4] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Vizcarra system, and therefore the planet, in grid square L-20.[2]
