"My focus must be finding and destroying the holocron of Nul left here. All of her designs--her plans--could be within. I will not stop until I erase every last dark stain left by the Children of the Emperor..."

Centuries before the Great Galactic War, a Jedi Master named Raniah possessed a unique ability that enabled her to connect her mind to another's through the Force and developed the belief that any Force-sensitive deserved to be trained in their powers. However, the Jedi Order felt her beliefs were dangerous and exiled her. Undeterred, Raniah took her followers to a distant planet in Wild Space, where she taught them to forge mental bonds as she did and invited others to their sanctuary. But one day, Raniah made contact with someone she did not expect: the Sith Emperor. She and her followers to then captured by the Sith and turned to the dark side[5]

Under her new Sith identity, Darth Nul, she worked create a machine that could replicate her ability to touch the minds of others. The most critical component of the machine was a holocron, imbued with her own essence. It was her intention to awaken the Force in others on a galactic scale. However, one of her acolytes, acting under deceit or torture, revealed her plans to the Emperor. Desperate to conceal her inventions from the Emperor's attention, hoping to create a new device to distract him so she could return to Elom and finish her work.[6]

The holocron was being kept in the Temple of Nul on Elom until it was visited by Darth Malgus around 3625 BBY. At the end of the events that transpired, Jedi Padawan Sa'har Kateen escaped with the holocron.[7]

When used in conjunction with a Sith machine, the holocron had the ability to amplify the abilities of only weakly Force-sensitive individuals, though it did not affect their underlying personality.[8]
