This article covers a subject from a Star Wars: Visions story that Lucasfilm declared is set in an alternate history within a reimagined galaxy.

"An heirloom. The kind of lightsaber only wielded by a bloodline heir. No good person carries a blade like this."
―Kouru[2]

The Ronin's lightsaber[3] was a lightsaber that belonged to the former Sith known as the Ronin. During a skirmish at a village on the Outer Rim planet of Genbara, the Ronin used this lightsaber to fight and kill the Sith Kouru.[1] The lightsaber was broken, and could not be retracted, so the Ronin used a specially shielded scabbard.[3]

The lightsaber hilt had unusual ornamentation. Its appearance suggested it was very old, resembling an heirloom weapon that a scion of a Jedi clan would wield. It revealed worn leather strips wrapped around the metal and the simple guard at its end. Kouru judged that, while beautiful, it made no sense as a weapon for a Sith.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Ronin's lightsaber first appeared in "The Duel," a non-canon short film directed by Takanobu Mizuno, written Takashi Okazaki, and released as part of the first volume of the Star Wars: Visions series. The animated short, produced by Kamikaze Douga, was released on Disney+[1] on September 22, 2021.[4] Okazaki created concept art of the saber for the short.[5]

When asked about the different hilt design featured on the cover of Ronin: A Visions Novel, author Emma Mieko Candon attributed it to artistic interpretation, as she personally had no input in the production of the artwork.[6]
