Ord Gimmel was a planet located on the same path as Sullust, acting as a trade hub and manufacturing center. However, it was also war-torn, with its queen having mysteriously disappeared in 1 BBY, a year before the Death Star was destroyed over Yavin 4. During the Galactic Civil War, this was one of the planets on which the Alliance to Restore the Republic was stationed.
Ord Gimmel's food rations were mostly imported from the planet Parada from the Hadar sector, including womback's meat and different variety of grains.
History
Early history
Ord Gimmel was discovered by Republic military scouts over ten thousand years before the Battle of Yavin. The discovery was classified by the Supreme Chancellor and the planet's covert colonization was used to support the Twelfth and Fifteenth Pius Dea Crusades. After the end of the Pius Dea Crusades, Ord Gimmel and its inhabitants were left forgotten.[1]
Forced to fend for themselves, the native Deaons of Ord Gimmel supported a royal bloodline of rulers that were descended from Grand Vicar Sidharra, the spiritual leader of the cathedral ship that had first settled Ord Gimmel. Over time, the Deaons abandoned the practices of the Pius Dea, although there were still vestigial influences in Deaon colloquialisms and architecture.[1]
Rediscovery
Around 2000 BBY, Ord Gimmel was rediscovered by the Republic. The ruling queen at the time, Welnarra, quickly sought to reintegrate Ord Gimmel with the galaxy and signed key manufacturing agreements with offworld interests. This resulted in unprecedented growth for Ord Gimmel, and by the final centuries of the Republic the planet had become the top hyperdrive component manufacturer in the region.[1]
At the start of the Clone Wars, Queen Nehanna declared her support for the Republic and voided all contracts that Ord Gimmel had with Separatist shipbuilders.[1]
