The Medal of Bothawui was a military decoration awarded by the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War.
Description
Medal of Bothawui being worn.
The Medal of Bothawui was awarded for distinguished service in intelligence gathering and fighting the rising tide of oppression and injustice. This award for intelligence gathering symbolized that while weapons, food and other supplies are vital to the resistance movement, information is the most vital resource of all.[2] It was named in honor of the Bothan people, many of whom sacrificed themselves in the war against tyranny.[3] Its Imperial equivalent was presumably the Medal of the Emperor's Fist.[4]
At least two variants of the medal existed. One variant simply had a red ribbon with gold attachments and a massive gold medallion with the Rebel Alliance logo emblazoned on the front.[2] The other variant had a red ribbon lined with various rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds, with the medal itself being gray and spade-shaped, with the Rebel Alliance logo being prominently displayed as well as featuring the silhouette of an X-wing at the top.[3] This second model was very similar to the Alliance Medal of Honor.[5]
History
In 1 ABY,[6] a spacer was awarded the Medal of Bothawui for retrieving four valuable droid modules and delivering them to Rebel agent Wilson Tchorshel.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Medal of Bothawui was a player reward in the online game Star Wars Galaxies for completing the Rebel arc of the Legacy Quest.[1] The medal had two different designs between the in-game version of the medal[3] and the one in the eponymous card for the Champions of the Force deck for the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game.[2]

- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
