Lenovo is a global technology designer, developer, and distributor specializing in computers and similar technologies.[3] Founded in 1984 as Legend, the company rebranded to Lenovo in 2003[4] and began to expand beyond their primary consumers in China into a multinational market, becoming the world's largest maker of personal computers.[1] Lenovo partnered with Disney[5] and Schell Games[6] to develop Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, which utilized their patented "Lenovo Mirage AR headset" and unique "Lightsaber Controller." Star Wars: Jedi Challenges was formally announced on August 31, 2017,[7] and was officially released on October 26 of that same year.[8] Three major expansions would be released for the game: The "The Last Jedi Update,"[9] the "Holochess Update,"[10] and the "Dark Side Expansion,"[11] before the game was eventually retired on June 1, 2022, Lenovo fully ending support for the product only a month later on July 6.[12]

Shortly after launch, the Star Wars: Jedi Challenges AR Headset earned Lenovo the "2017 – 2018 Golden A' Design Award" in the "Digital and Electronic Devices Design Award" for its ergonomic design and maximum immersion factor.[13] Additionally, at the 2018 Webby Awards, Star Wars: Jedi Challenges won in four categories, including the "Official categories" of "Technical Achievement" and "Best Use of Augmented Reality," as well as the "People's Voice categories" of "Technical Achievement" and "Best Use of Augmented Reality."[14]
