Wookieepedia Celebrates 20 Years!
Wook-20th-logo

March 4, starwars.fandom.com—Twenty years ago, Star Wars fans were eagerly awaiting the REVENGE OF THE SITH, exploring the depths of Nar Shaddaa in the KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC II, and beginning to build WOOKIEEPEDIA—the Star Wars wiki. As an ever-growing community of volunteers, the Wookieepedia project now celebrates its 20th year.

Our encyclopedia officially reached 200,000 articles in February, 2025. This was only possible with the work of hundreds upon hundreds of fans over the past twenty years. Most Wookieepedians started off editing with little to no writing or coding experience, but our efforts have brought us closer to the goal of creating the most accurate, comprehensive, and well-presented resource about all things Star Wars.

Since Wookieepedia's tenth anniversary in 2015, we have expanded the breadth, depth, and quality of our documentation of both the Star Wars Legends and the new canon continuities, as well as coverage of Star Wars media and production behind the scenes. Wookieepedia has also been building a more friendly and welcoming community. Informed by our contributors' experiences, we have launched ongoing efforts in revamping our policies to be clearer and more fair, improving accessibility, and developing new editing tutorials.

Since 2015, editor recruitment has advanced on Wookieepedia, with the great majority of the current administrators and review board members having joined those groups in recent years. The past ten years has also seen the progress of the Discussions forum and the launch of twenty-two new collaborative WookieeProjects. These include the Project Stardust initiative focusing on essential topics and Project Pride's efforts to improve the wiki's coverage of LGBTQIA+ topics. Most external links on Wookieepedia now have backup archival links to keep a better record of the ever-changing Internet, and bot systems have automated many monotonous site maintenance tasks such as page archivals for the status article peer review system.

Our work continues unabated. Thousands more pages need to be created, lack citations, await expansion, and could use more images. All the while, the franchise continues to grow and require updates. As we enter our third decade, we would love for more readers to join our ranks! May the Force be with us in the next twenty years… ✨

BarKooda-BarKooda

Bar-Kooda was a notorious Herglic pirate who had a reputation of eating his victims. At some point by 6 ABY, the Bloodstar, the massive starship captained by Bar-Kooda, attacked a spaceliner aboard which was the magician Wim Magwit. Bar-Kooda forced Magwit to perform in front of him and his crew of pirates and, becoming amazed by the magician's Mystifying Hoop act, kept him aboard the Bloodstar for four more years.

Eventually, Magwit escaped from Bar-Kooda, but the Herglic put out a warrant for the magician's arrest, and the bounty hunter Boba Fett captured Magwit in 10 ABY. However, the Hutt Gorga Desilijic Aarrpo also hired Fett to kill Bar-Kooda in order to please the trader Orko, with whose daughter, Anachro, Gorga had fallen in love. To that end, Fett forced Magwit to smuggle him aboard the Bloodstar and assist in capturing Bar-Kooda.

Aboard the pirates' ship, Bar-Kooda ordered Magwit to perform the Mystifying Hoop trick once again. The magician persuaded the Herglic to stick his head through the frame that formed a part of the Hoop's matter transmitter system—only for the pirate to be pulled by the waiting Fett through the other frame located in the Bloodstar's cargo hold. Bar-Kooda engaged Fett in a brief brawl that ended when the latter knocked the former unconscious.

Fett, who was carrying Bar-Kooda, and Magwit then both made their way back to the spacecraft on which they had arrived aboard the Bloodstar and escaped the pirate ship. Fett subsequently killed Bar-Kooda, and for a feast he was having with Orko and Anachro on the planet Tatooine, Gorga had a roasted entrée prepared out of the pirate. Bar-Kooda's older brother, Ry-Kooda, later attempted to avenge his death but was also killed by Fett. (Read more…)
