A battle took place on Endor that was a contained conflict in 3 ABY between the Ewoks of Bright Tree Village and a Gorax, in an attempt to reunite two human children, Mace and Cindel Towani, with their parents, Jeremitt and Catarine Towani, who had been imprisoned by the Gorax. The battle was a victory for the Ewoks, ending in the death of the Gorax and the reunification of the Towani family.

Prelude

The Towani family, while traveling in their star cruiser, crashed on the Forest Moon of Endor. While stranded on the moon, the family became separated into two groups, between the parents, Jeremitt and Catarine Towani and their children, Mace and Cindel Towani. Seperated from their children, the parents became captured by a local Gorax and taken back to it's lair in the Forbidden Fortress of the Gorax.[5]

Mace and Cindel, who briefly became separated from their crashed star cruiser, returned. There they were discovered by Deej Warrick and two of his children, Weechee and Widdle Warrick. The Ewoks take the remaining Towani to Bright Tree Village, where a sick Cindel is cared for. The relationship between the Ewoks and Mace is rocky initially, but Mace grows to trust the Ewoks over the course of their stay, especially so after the Ewoks save the lives of both Mace and Cindel from a boar-wolf. After the battle with the beast, they discover the life monitor of one of the Towani parents strapped to it's back. Realizing that their parents may not be dead, Mace asks another of Deej's children, Wicket, where the boar-wolf originated. Wicket reveals to Mace that the boar-wolf was likely owned by the local Gorax.[5]

Returning to Bright Tree Village, Mace asks Logray, the village mystic, to reveal the location of his parents. Using his crystal image spinner, Logray reveals the location of the Towani parents, showing that they are both still alive and held by the Gorax. Cindel begs Deej and Logray to help her and Mace save their parents, and reluctantly they agree. [5]

Logray assembles the Ewok caravan to lead a charge against the Gorax, including Deej, Weechee, Widdle, Wicket, Mace, and Cindel, giving all of them the sacred totems of the legendary Ewok warriors to help them on their journey, including two extra totems given in hopes of recruiting more Ewoks on their journey. On the journey, the group recruits the Ewok lumberjack Chukha-Trok and the Ewok Priestess Kaink. The group also recruits the Wistie, Izrina, who became seperated from the rest of her people. [5]

After a length and treacherous journey across the forest moon, the group reaches the Desert of Salma where they enter the Forbidden Fortress of the Gorax. As the caravan enters, Deej asks that the youngest members of the group, Wicket, Widdle, and Cindel stay behind, which they do, exchanging hugs as the rest of the caravan pushes further into the Gorax's lair. Both groups are attacked by a Rearing spider, which they both manage to fight off. [5]

The battle

The group then finds themselves at the bottom of a giant staircase, where they attacked by a third spider, which Wicket kills with a knife. They climb the steps to the top, where they find the Gorax's lair. Mace hears the Gorax, and tells the others to run and hide with him. However, Weechee doesn't make it out in time, and has to hide behind the Gorax's giant ax as the Gorax sits down at his table eating off of a bone. It gets up to look at its next meal: Jeremitt and Catarine, who are hanging in a cage from the ceiling.[5]

Weechee accidentally knocks the ax over, which garners the Gorax's attention, and it comes after him. He runs to the rest of the group, who again run and hide. Mace wonders how they will reach their parents, and Chukha-Trok suggests they use the Gorax's ax as a lever. Mace stands on one end, at which point Jeremitt and Catarine notice him. Chukha-Trok and Deej jump off a ledge onto the other end of the lever, which sends Mace flying up into the air, where he grabs hold of the cage containing his parents. Mace throws down a rope, and introduces Chukha-Trok as "a friend" as he climbs up.[5]

Mace climbs down first, but as soon as he reaches the bottom, the Gorax notices their activity. Weechee distracts it by hiding under a basket and moving across the floor. The Gorax smashes the basket, but finds nothing underneath. Weechee runs out from behind a corner, enraging the Gorax. Meanwhile, everyone continues climbing down from the cage, which is beginning to break. Weechee runs back to warn them, with the Gorax on his trail. The cage breaks, and Chukha-Trok falls into the hands of Jeremitt. They run out of the Gorax's lair, but Chukha-Trok stays behind and repeatedly attacks the Gorax's foot with his ax.[5]

As Mace is yelling for him to come on, Izrina lights up in his pocket. Mace unleashes Izrina on the Gorax, which disorients it while Chukha-Trok continues his attacks. In a rage, the Gorax strikes the walls of his fortress, which causes rocks to crumble and fall on Chukha-Trok. Mace runs to him, but realizes that Chukha-Trok is dying. Before he dies, Chukha-Trok gives Mace his ax.[5]

The Gorax chases the survivors down the giant steps, but they use a pulled-tight rope to trip him. Kaink then uses her magic wand to cause a stalactite to fall on his head. Catarine then uses Mace's blaster to shoot the Gorax in the chest, which causes him to fall off the ledge into the pit. Mace shows Deej Chukha-Trok's ax, and explains his sacrifice to them.[5]

Cindel, Wicket and Widdle appear on the other side of the chasm. But at that moment, the Gorax emerges from the pit and moves toward them. Mace throws Chukha-Trok's ax into the Gorax's back, which causes him to fall back into the pit. The group then swing across the chasm using a remaining part of the spider web as rope. Once they are safely on the other side, the family embraces, happy to be back together and out of danger. They then head for home, with Mace suggesting that Izrina will help guide the way.[5]

Aftermath

The Towani family, finally reunited, celebrate with the Bright Tree Village after their victory.[5] The family temporarily moves in with the Ewoks as Jeremitt resumes his work on the Towani family star cruiser, once again attempting to leave the moon after being stopped by the Gorax. Unforunatly for them, Bright Tree Village was attacked by a group of Sanyassan Marauders soon after the battle with the Gorax, and the Towani family, save for Cindel, were killed in the raid. [6]

After another long and perilous journey of her own, Cindel would work together again with Wicket, as well as the hermit Noa Briqualon and his partner Teek to finally escape the moon. [6]
