Candobar Inglet was the khedive of Sluis Van and the Sluis sector during the Clone Wars and the era preceding it. Shortly before the start of the war, he and his sector seceded to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. It was believed that the presence of the rogue Judicial Department ship Scarlet Thranta might have helped decide him to join with the Separatists.

Biography

In 22 BBY, shortly before the First Battle of Geonosis and the formal outbreak of the Clone Wars, the planet Sluis Van officially seceded from the Galactic Republic and aligned itself with the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The defection was a significant development, as Sluis Van was widely known as one of the Republic's most important shipyards, boasting massive orbital facilities and centuries of experience in constructing warships and civilian vessels. The loss of the Sluis sector to Separatist influence dealt a serious blow to the Republic's naval prestige and strategic reach.

During this period of transition, the Khedive of Sluis Van, the hereditary ruler of the system, issued a transmission across the HoloNet directed to the Jedi Order and the Judicial Department. In this message, the Khedive pledged his assistance in tracking down and apprehending the rogue starship Scarlet Thranta, which had been reported operating in the vicinity of Sluis Van's trade routes. He claimed that the vessel was a destabilizing presence in the region and offered the Jedi permission to enter his system in pursuit.

Despite the apparent offer of cooperation, the message immediately aroused suspicion among Republic intelligence analysts, Republic Judicial officials, and even members of the Jedi High Council. The transmission was considered highly uncharacteristic of the traditionally cautious and isolationist Sluissi, whose leadership was known for their engineering expertise rather than direct political or military entanglement. Given that Sluis Van had only just declared for the Confederacy, many within the Republic believed the HoloNet communiqué was a deliberate Separatist ruse intended to lure Jedi or Judicial forces into an ambush.

The true intentions behind the Khedive's transmission were never fully clarified. While some contemporaneous reports suggested the Scarlet Thranta was indeed present in the sector, others claimed the Separatists may have fabricated the incident entirely to test the Republic's willingness to commit forces so close to a newly declared enemy world. Regardless, the episode contributed to the Republic’s growing mistrust of Separatist-aligned worlds, reinforcing the perception that overtures of cooperation from seceding systems were likely to be traps.
