Black 3 was a TIE fighter assigned to Black Squadron. The starfighter was flown by TIE pilot DS-61-3, nicknamed "Backstabber,"[1] and the craft was stationed aboard the first Death Star.[3]
The cockpit had the stylized image of a Corellian slice hound on the inner hatch.[1] During the Battle of Yavin, Black 3 was destroyed by the Han Solo piloting the Millennium Falcon. The fighter was covering Darth Vader while he attempted to stop Luke Skywalker from launching proton torpedoes into the Death Star's thermal exhaust port. Solo swooped in behind Black 3, destroying the fighter with his starship's laser cannons.[3]
