Adega and its surroundings

Adega was a terrestrial planet[1] located within the Adega system,[5] one of the Auril systems,[4] and a part of the Auril sector[3] in the Slice portion of[2] the Outer Rim Territories.[1] It orbited the twin stars Adega Prime and Adega Besh. Adega was situated near the planet Ossus and the Perlemian Trade Route.[2]

History

Adega was located in the Adega system, which was once the site of an important ancient Jedi stronghold.[5] Before the discovery of the planet Ilum around 22,800 BBY, the earliest lightsaber crystals came from Adega.[2] The construction of the first lightsabers would have been impossible without the use of Adegan crystals.[1] Even after Ilum succeeded Adega as the primary source of lightsaber crystals, the three most common varieties—kathracite, mephite, and pontite—were still referred to as Adegan crystals.[2]

By 20 BBY, during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Adega was undecided on its affiliation to either the Republic or the Confederacy.[7]

Inhabitants

Adega was home to the slithery fish known as Adegan eel,[6] a venomous creature with vicious fangs and a slime-covered body.[8]

Behind the scenes

Adega was introduced in the 1998 video game Star Wars: Rebellion, which provided the planet's only visual depiction—an image also used to illustrate twelve other worlds in the game.[5] Star Wars: Rebellion and its accompanying strategy guide placed Adega in the Moddell sector.[5][9]

The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas subsequently placed the Adega system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square R-6. The Essential Atlas described Adega as being a "world near Ossus" in its entry for Ilum. However, the reference book did not list Adega among the planets of the Adega system in its entry for Ossus.[2] Jason Fry, author of The Essential Atlas, confirmed the placement of Adega in the Adega system but was not able to provide an explanation for the discrepancy.[10]
