- "I was walking home and one of Lady Valarian's guards (if you can call that scum 'guards') called out to some Hutt hirelings something about how Lady Valarian was going to be the top power in Mos Eisley and opened fire on them. One or more of the shots hit me."
- ―Escara Frei, to a medic
Escara Frei was a Human female who lived on the desert world Tatooine during the Galactic Civil War.
Biography
- "I need you to take care of a couple of patients that got caught in a territory war in Mos Eisley."
- ―Billingsly, to a medic
Following the Battle of Yavin, Escara Frei resided in Mos Eisley. The woman was an Imperial sympathizer and was a friend of Imperial Captain Jasha in Bestine.[1]
In 1 ABY,[2] Frei and a man named Jorund Redd was caught in a firefight between Lady Valarian's guards and Jabba the Hutt's thugs in Mos Eisley. The old woman was hit by one or more shots, but her injuries weren't severe. A medic, sent by the 2-1B droid Billingsly to help Administrator Nillika and the local medical staff, treated her wounds. Frei suggested that the medic may contact Captain Jasha to work for the Empire.[1]
Later the same year, she visited the mayor of Mos Eisley Mikdanyell Guh'rantt to complain about noise caused by unscrupulous merchants.[3]
Behind the scenes
Escara Frei was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[4] Escara Frei was added to the game upon the release of the "Publish 25," a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005.[5]
Escara Frei could be found near the starport and medical center in Mos Eisley. She was part of the low-level quest "Caught in the Crossfire" for players of the Medic profession. The player was contacted by Billingsly and needed to talk to Frei to treat her wounds.[1]

Star Wars Galaxies (post-NGE) — Medic Quest: "Caught in the Crossfire" on Tatooine
- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
