- "Desperate mechanics sometimes cannibalize their scanners for much needed parts: wires, digital readout, energy flux capacitors, and micro-power regulators. Keep in mind that this little box is just a tool, not a replacement hyperdrive motivator."
- ―Platt Okeefe, Smuggler's Handbook
Energy flux capacitors were components in power scanners, devices used to detect a wide range of energy emissions. According to the smuggler Platt Okeefe, desperate mechanics would often dismantle and cannibalize power scanners to repurpose their energy flux capacitors, usually to repair hyperdrive motivators. Platt later included a mention of energy flux capacitors in her guide, the Smuggler's Handbook.[1]
Behind the scenes
Energy flux capacitors were mentioned in the 1997 sourcebook Platt's Smugglers Guide, written by Peter M. Schweighofer and published by West End Games for their Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[1] The device shares its name with the flux capacitor from the Back to the Future franchise.[2]
