In Tognath culture, eggmates were individuals who shared a special bond due to their unhatched eggs grafting together while being nurtured in suspension jelly,[2] although the true word was untranslatable. Eggs could fuse in pairs or trios and, once gestated, the larvae would go on to share a close bond in life. If fused early enough, some egg pairs developed a telepathic or empathic bond. These egg mates could always sense one another's location and emotional state of mind. The most successful float farmers, a dangerous but highly romanticized Tognath profession, were eggmates, able to detect one another's location and safety.[3]
