- "As for myself, were I to find myself stranded halfway between two galaxies, I'd simply shut down my intelligence and set my power consumption for millennial hibernation."
- ―EV-9T9
EV-9T9 was the trusted servant droid of Jedi Knight Kam Solusar.
Biography
EV-9T9 was an EV-series droid
Created at some point prior to 25 BBY, EV-9T9 accompanied Kam Solusar to Anoth aboard the Starfield Roamer after the latter's father, Ranik Solusar, was slain by Darth Vader. EV-9T9 would stay by Kam's side as the Jedi embarked on a thirty-five year odyssey beyond the known galaxy in order to remain hidden from the Galactic Empire. During such time, EV-9T9 began displaying some degradation to his systems: it took longer for the droid to come online after being deactivated, it did not always confirm that it understood its orders and it developed a unique sense of humour.
EV-9T9 and Kam eventually returned to the known galaxy amidst the start Operation Shadow Hand. They were only three days away from reaching Shabook when a Victory-class Star Destroyer caught the Starfield Roamer in a tractor beam and captured Kam and EV. Being the property of an escaped Jedi, EV-9T9 was taken with Kam to Bast Castle on the planet Vjun so that it could be inspected by the Dark Side Elite. After being dismantled by the Darksider, Zasm Katth, EV-9T9 permanently shutdown, allowing Zasm to have unrestricted access to its memory banks.[1]
Legacy
- "Here you are, sir. There's 170,000 hours of pertinent information... fully indexed, of course."
"Thank you, DIS-M12. Toss everything into the furnace on your way out." - ―A DIS-M12 interrogator droid providing Zasm Katth's with EV-9T9's memory banks
Once Zasm was finished with EV-9T9, he had a DIS-M12 interrogator droid dispose of what remained of the servant droid's body into a furnace. The information that Zasm garnered from EV-9T9's extensive memory banks provided the Dark Side Elite with critical information about Kam Solusar's history and the fate of his family. This, alongside Umak Leth's Mind Splitter, allowed Sedriss QL to successfully break Kam Solusar's will and have him fall to the Dark Side.[1]
Behind the scenes
EV-9T9 was created by Tom Veitch for the cancelled Lightsider storyline, which was meant to explore the origins of Kam Solusar and bridge the gap between Star Wars: Dark Empire and Star Wars: Dark Empire II. In 2023, two unreleased manuscripts of Lightsider from 1996 and 2009 were obtained by author Joseph Bongiorno and released as an online PDF containing both on his website starwarstimeline.net.[3]
