- "Across its prison system, the Empire put inmates to work. Cassian Andor reported, having escaped from the facility on Narkina 5, that he had spent weeks—and other inmates years—building some form of mechanical joint system for the Empire, though it is unclear what these devices were ever used for."
- ―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
EP-N5 fasteners were a type of six-pronged panel joint assembled by the inmates of the Galactic Empire's Narkina 5 Imperial Prison Complex on the moon Narkina 5.[1] Complex in design[3] and also identified as "widgets,"[4] the fasteners were then used in the construction of the Death Star superweapon's Mk I Superlaser dish.[1] The wider galaxy never learned of the joint system's true purpose, with escapee Cassian Jeron Andor only knowing it was a type of joint.[2]
