- "You've got skill. But it takes more than fast servomotors and bad programming to kill a Jedi."
- ―Anakin Skywalker
The EG-5 Jedi Hunter droid, also called the EG droid, was a model of battle droid created by the InterGalactic Banking Clan during the Clone Wars. Its sole purpose was to eliminate Jedi. Two members of the line were EG-05 and EG-07.
Overview
EG-5 droid.
The droid appeared to be roughly humanoid in shape, with skeletal features similar to that of Grievous. Its helmeted head contained two red photoreceptors and its body was coated in red color. Its qualities included incredible speed, dexterity, and the ability to wield two red lightsabers with perfect form.
History
As the Clone Wars raged on, the Separatists were losing their support in the Colonies, with it being said that battles were won by the Republic because of a single Jedi is worth a hundred droids. To turn the tide of the war in their favor, the Sith Lord Count Dooku ordered the creation of an assassin-droid designed to hunt down and eliminate Jedi.[3]
While the EG-5 was tested on its own prototypes, Count Dooku was skeptical that a droid would be able to reliably defeat a Jedi. However, being pleased to have another weapon in his arsenal, Dooku decided to nonetheless test its skills.[3][2]
Circa 21 BBY, Jedi General Anakin Skywalker was sent to destroy a droid factory controlled by the Separatists, where he encountered and the lightsaber-wielding droid. After a fierce duel, Skywalker managed to slice into its shoulder, allowing him to unleash an onslaught of slashes before throwing it into an electrode, causing the droid to explode.[2]
