Dust fever was an illness common among children on the planet Tatooine. The afflicted individual often had vivid dreams—and rarely lucid dreams—of strange and unusual themes.
Luke Skywalker was prone to dust fever. In 9 BBY. he contracted a case of the disease while attempting to run away from home during a sandstorm. During his illness, he had a vision of a menacing dark figure standing over him.
A boy called "Annie" helped him survive the storm and Luke was also able to kill a Krayt dragon with a gaderffiii stick that the pair had taken from the body of a tusken raider. However, when his Uncle Owen and other searchers found Luke, there was no sign of the other boy or the dragon and they passed the experience off as a dust fever dream, though Luke insisted that it was real.
