In 9 ABY,[3] on the planet Lothal, the Mandalorian and former apprentice to Ahsoka Tano, New Republic Commander Sabine Wren, dueled Force-sensitive mercenary Shin Hati, who was attempting to steal a map to the missing Grand Admiral Thrawn for Morgan Elsbeth. Ultimately, Hati successfully escaped with the map after stabbing Wren in the stomach with her lightsaber.[1]

Prelude

Following her mission on Arcana, Ahsoka Tano found a Dathomir compass that included a map with the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn. In hopes of finding both the admiral and Ezra Bridger, Ahsoka requested the help of her former apprentice, the Mandalorian Sabine Wren, to see if she could interpret the artwork on the compass at her T-6 shuttle.[1]

Before rushing downstairs, Sabine grabbed her lightsaber.

Wren left Tano's ship and took the compass back to the LothalNet comm tower, where she was able to successfully open it later that night. Shortly after unlocking the map, Sabine was attacked at the tower by two HK-87 assassin droids, with one of them grabbing her while the other stole the map and destroyed most of her equipment in the tower. Sabine was able to break free of the droid's grip after destroying it with their own blasters. While she was trying to catch up with the droid that had the map, Wren called Huyang for help before grabbing her lightsaber.[1]

The Duel

"That's too bad."

Rushing downstairs, Sabine saw that the HK droid was accompanied by Shin Hati, a Force-sensitive Mercenary. After Wren ignited the lightsaber she once used, Shin also ignited her lightsaber after giving the map back to the droid, Sabine ran towards Hati as the two engaged in a lightsaber duel, with the Mandalorian attempting to strike first, but Shin parried the attack with her own saber, which sent Sabine a few meters back. Hati continued the duel by attacking Sabine multiple time, with now her being one who needed to block the strikes, which the Mandalorian did while slowly being pushed back each time their sabers connected. As the duel continued, Ahsoka Tano and Huyang were on their way to the tower.[1]

The duel ended with Sabine getting stabbed through the torso.

Sabine and Shin held multiple saber locks before the mercenary slowly tried to push Sabine onto the ground. while Wren was able to get out of the lock, she was quickly struck again by Hati, with the clash packing enough force to throw her into the ground, though she quickly got back up. Just as Sabine was starting to get comfortable during the duel and was able to push back against Shin, the mercenary managed to stab Wren through the torso right as Ahsoka and Huyang arrived, with Sabine kneeling and swinging her lightsaber before falling unconscious. Hati and the HK droid ran off while Ahsoka went to help Wren.[1]

Aftermath

Sabine was quickly taken to a hospital on Capital City where they were able to successfully treat her wounds, with Wren waking up shortly thereafter. Meanwhile, with the map successfully retrieved, Hati and her master Baylan traveled to the planet Seatos along with the rest of Morgan Elsbeth's forces. Morgan placed the compass at a mapping mechanism that was on the planet and allowed the mercenaries an opportunity to see the map.[2]
