The discovery of Alaris Prime[3] by Wookiee explorers[1] occurred between 59 BBY and 56 BBY.[2] Alaris Prime was a moon in the Alaris Expanse in the Kashyyyk system that was geographically hidden by the gas giant Alaris.[1] As a consequence, the moon had been untouched by the galactic community for close to one thousand years, when it had been the site of a skirmish in the New Sith Wars.[4] Independent Wookiee explorers from the planet Kashyyyk in the same star system discovered Alaris Prime[1] when their species began to venture to other worlds.[3]

The Wookiees subsequently petitioned the Senate of the Galactic Republic to give them colonization rights to the moon. After two decades of political debate, Alaris Prime was awarded to the Wookiees, who colonized the moon[1] sometime between 39 and 36 BBY.[2] There, they fought against an illegal Trade Federation presence, after which Alaris Prime became a thriving community within the Republic.[1]

Behind the scenes

The discovery of Alaris Prime was first mentioned in the databank entry for Alaris Prime in the 2001 LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.[1] It was identified in the forty-second issue of The Official Star Wars Fact File, a magazine[3] written by Iain Lowson[5] and published by De Agostini around October 16, 2002.[6]

  4. Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil describes a skirmish occurring on Alaris Prime in 1002 BBY. Therefore, for Alaris Prime to be an uncolonized moon as described in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, it must have disappeared from galactic view after 1002 BBY.
