- "The Academy at Sab Rufo, from which Rin claims to hold two doctoral degrees (and at which he claims to be the current Director of Sentientology), is nonexistent."
- ―Major Herrit, Imperial communique #46553.27h
The Director of Sentientology was a position in the Academy at Sab Rufo that, according to the credentials of the sentientologist Obo Rin, he held by the time of the reign of the Galactic Empire. At one point, Imperial Intelligence Major Herrit performed a background check on Rin, whom the Empire had commissioned to author a reference work detailing the various sentient species of the galaxy. Herrit subsequently sent communique #46553.27h, addressed to[1] the Galactic Emperor Palpatine's apprentice, Dark Lord of the Sith[2] Darth Vader, in which the major criticized Rin and[1] erroneously[3] claimed that the Academy at Sab Rufo—or indeed Sab Rufo itself—did not in fact exist. In a reply communique, Vader's aide Captain Solistein dismissed Herrit's "unsolicited opinions" and, in response to the latter's criticisms of Rin's qualifications, only stated that Vader had not ordered Herrit to perform a background check on the sentientologist.[1]
Behind the scenes
The position of Director of Sentientology was mentioned in Galaxy Guide 4: Alien Races, a 1989 sourcebook authored by Troy Denning for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[1]
