The dianoga heart was an item and presumably the heart of a Dianoga. Yoda asked Luke to retrieve this for him, and to do so, Luke must defeat a strange creature, much unlike that of a Dianoga. When retrieved, Yoda would trade the heart for a Spirit Heart.
