A dermatoglyphic pattern[1] or dermatoglyphic record[2] was a unique skin pattern that most species in the galaxy developed. They were usually located on a individual's thumb or similar appendage. Databases of dermatoglyphic patterns were stored on criminals, slaves, politicians, bureaucrats, and Imperial-allied corporations. Wookiee dermatoglyphic patterns were taken from their noses, as many Wookiee slaves had scarred or missing fingers, making identification problematic.[1]
Imperial code cylinders contained an individual's dermatoglyphic record, as well as voice and retinal prints, to verify the owner's identity at specialized scanners. Dermatoglyphic patterns could also be used as a secondary identification method for security systems such as electronic locks.[2]
