The Department of Agriculture and Non-sapient Creatures was subdivision of the Galactic Empire that was concerned with matters regarding agriculture and non-intelligent creatures.[1] During the Galactic Republic, it was known as the Department of Agriculture and Nonsentient Creatures.[2] In 19 BBY,[3] it was affiliated with a data processing center located on Coruscant's Federal District.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Department of Agriculture and Non-sapient Creatures was first mentioned in Knights of Fate, a 2018 sourcebook for Fantasy Flight Games Star Wars: Force and Destiny roleplaying game as "Department of Agriculture and Nonsentient Creatures."[2] It made its first appearance in the 2025 novel Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear, written by Alexander Freed as the first installment of the Star Wars: Reign of the Empire trilogy.[1]

(backup link) states that Edge of the Abyss takes place a year before the events of Andor Season 1, which are set in 5 BBY per the reasoning here. Therefore, the events of Edge of the Abyss must be set in 6 BBY, and the events of The Mask of Fear in 19 BBY.
