A Delemedian starhopper was a type of jump drive–equipped starship that was in existence by the year 212 BBY. One starhopper belonged to the Human Bosbit Matarcher, who experienced time dilation due to faulty relativistic shielding upon using the starhopper's jump drive. When Matarcher emerged from hyperspace in 22 BBY, the Delemedian starhopper was considered an antique.

Description

A type of starship, the Delemedian starhopper required a crew of at least one pilot and was equipped with both relativistic shielding and a jump drive.[1]

History

Delemedian starhoppers were a type of starship in use during the later years of the Galactic Republic.[1] In 212 BBY,[2] Bosbit Matarcher, a Human from[1] the astronomical object[3] Delemede, purchased on his homeworld a starhopper that had malfunctioning relativistic shielding. Matarcher thought he got a good price on the ship, but when he activated the starhopper's jump drive and entered hyperspace to leave his home system, the faulty relatavistic shielding left the ship and everything aboard subject to time dilation, in which the ship experienced time at a slower rate than the rest of the galaxy. The starhopper, with Matarcher still alive onboard, did not exit hyperspace until[1] the year 22 BBY,[2] while he only experienced a two-hour trip. By that time, the starhopper was considered an antique. Matarcher's starhopper was mentioned in a HoloNet News article about Matarcher[1] on the date 13:3:21, in 22 BBY.[2]

The Delemedian starhopper was first mentioned in "225-year Old Man's Secret? Time Dilation" an article[1] written by Pablo Hidalgo and Paul Ens[4] and published in HoloNet News Vol. 531 #48 on the HoloNet News website[1] on March 21, 2002.[5]
