The Data Dead Drop was a common and inexpensive tool used by embedded agents and informants to exchange data covertly. One operative hid a datachip or encoded message in a hidden compartment within an ordinary item, such as a glowlamp or datapad. Later, another operative retrieved the item. Ideally, the exchange attracted no attention, and unsuspecting users of the item failed to notice the hidden modification.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Data Dead Drop was first mentioned in Desperate Allies, a roleplaying supplementary sourcebook for the Star Wars Roleplaying series that was published by Fantasy Flight Games in 2015.[1]
