This red-bladed lightsaber was wielded by the Muun Sith Lord Darth Plagueis. It was crafted sometime in his years as an apprentice under his master, Darth Tenebrous.[1]
Specifications
At some point in his training under Darth Tenebrous, Darth Plagueis constructed his lightsaber, making the lightsaber larger to accommodate the larger hands of a Muun. Darth Sidious took note of the larger grip when killing members of the Gran Protectorate, finding the larger weapon to be unwieldy in human hands and found it easier to use in a two-handed grip. Tenebrous pronounced Plagueis to be a master of lightsaber combat, though Plagueis found lightsaber duelling to be tedious, full of misspent emotion and acrobatics.[1]
History
Creation and early usage
During his apprenticeship to Darth Tenebrous, Darth Plagueis constructed the lightsaber. At some point in Plagueis's training, Tenebrous proclaimed him to be a master of duelling. Though Plagueis thought little of lightaber duelling.[1]
After Tenebrous's death
After crushing and killing Tenebrous on Bal'Demnic in 67 BBY, Plagueis managed to get into their ship and retrieve not only his, but his master's lightsaber. He carried them as he made his way to a spaceport on Bal'Demnic and stowed away in the starship known as the Woebegone. When Plagueis was found, he attempted to negotiate his way out of the situation. But eventually he failed and it lead to violence. Plagueis killed everyone on the Woebegone with his lightsaber and skills in the Force.[1]
After finding his way to Sojourn and hosting a Gathering, he eventually sensed the presence of another Force-Sensitive. Eventually the Force-Sensitive revealed himself to the be the secret apprentice of Darth Tenebrous, a Bith named Darth Venamis. The two eventually engaged in a duel. Tenebrous purposely trained Venamis to be an expert in Plagueis's style, having had little faith in Plagueis. This allowed the Bith to anticipate and counter all of Plagueis's attacks, and eventually he seared Plagueis's neck. after this wound, Darth Plagueis started to move like a marionette, allowing himself to push the defensive and simply react to Venamis's attacks. Once Venamis was at the height of his attack, Plagueis soared in with a two-handed strike from between his legs. The wound it left on Venamis didn't cut into his lung, but it did open a wound from his chest to his chin. Plagueis then proceeded to knock Venamis's lightsaber from his hand. The Bith tried to summon the blade but was too slow, as Plagueis called it first and crossed them across the Bith's neck, demanding him to yield. Once the Bith did, Plagueis disengaged and attached both his and Venamis's lightsabers to his belt[1]
Master to Sidious
Darth Plagueis taught Darth Sidious in the ways of lightsaber combat.
After taking Palpatine as his apprentice and christening him Darth Sidious, he trained Sidious in different ways of lightsaber and melee combat. In 54 BBY He taught him how to deflect bolts on Hypori from waves of automata droids. He then later brought Sidious to Kursid where they fought off warriors with force pikes. When one warrior was left, Plagueis threw away the pike and drew his lightsaber before using it to slice open the warriors chest cavity and then reached into his chest to pull out the warriors heart.[1]
When Plagueis, publicly known as Magister Hego Damask, was on Coruscant in 52 BBY he found himself attacked by Maladian assassins and had to fend them off without his lightsaber, having left the weapon in his personal starship. After the Maladian's attacked Plagueis, Sidious went to Plagueis's ship to retrieve the lightsaber-the only one available to him, as he had encased his own in a statue of Sistros-before using it to infiltrate the Malastare ambassador's residence and kill Dug's, two Dug guards, Gran's, Gran children, Santhe guards, and members of the Gran Protectorate, including Senator Pax Teem.[1]
Plagueis's twilight years
In 33 BBY Plagueis carried his lightsaber once more when he went and paid former King Ars Veruna a visit in his personal isolated castle. In the visit he did not make use of his lightsaber, but kept it on his belt. He slowly took revenge on Veruna, who had attempted to kill him with assistance from Gardulla the Hutt, Black Sun, and the Bando Gora. Gradually and slowly he killed Veruna through Midi-Chlorian Manipulation.[1]
Behind the scenes

Darth Plagueis's lightsaber was first pictured in artwork for the Tenebrous Way in 2011. The lightsaber went on to appear in the 2012 novel Darth Plagueis written by James Luceno.
Despite never canonically owning a staff, many pieces of merchandise portray Plagueis as wielding one. This originated from the comic Tag & Bink: Revenge of the Clone Menace, a non-canon comic from 2006.[3] The staff was carried over into Plagueis's miniatures figure and card from 2009, which displayed the staff and first introduced Plagueis's then as of yet named transpirator.[4] While the respirator was carried over into the novel named after the Muun in 2012 and was identified as a transpirator, the staff was not.[1] In 2013 a 6 inch Black Series figure of Plagueis was released. The release featured his lightsaber and a staff. The lightsaber could be attached to the top of the staff and be used as a lightsaber pike. Again though, no canonical stories in the lore reflected these decisions.[5]
