The Darkshear, also known as the spear of midnight black, was an arcane dark side Force power. It enabled a Force-user to channel the Dark in a sustained, directed burst. It could be used to forge an imperceivable melee weapon in the form of a piercing metaphysical spear of midnight black.[1] A Darkshear strike caused victims to suffer the cumulative damage of years of atrophy in a single moment. Armor rusts and becomes brittle, power cells drain, and machinery jams. Individuals can age thirty years in an instant, with vital body parts such as their heart, lungs, and joints failing in the midst of battle. Darkshear damage could sometimes be reversed with bacta, but might require prosthetic replacement.[2]
The Sorcerers of Rhand's unique perspective on the Force gave them access to many inordinate capabilities, such as Darkshear. They became masters of this arcane technique and used it in the rare event they were threatened with face-to-face confrontation.[2]
Behind the scenes
While this technique is not available in the computer game Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, it is described in the novel Dark Forces: Jedi Knight as the method that Katarn uses to kill Boc. However, in the game, Boc is killed simply by the lightsaber duel.
