D'ian orchid vines were a type of plump, sweet-smelling vines[1] originally comes from the D'ian province of the planet Sen III,[3] from where they spread across the entire the Corporate Sector.[1] Flowering orchid vines were used to make lush, dense curtains freckled with sweet-smelling moss, behind which one could remain unseen.[2] During the reign of the Galactic Empire the great beauty and fragrance of these plants made them renowned outside the Corporate Sector.[3]
Behind the scenes
Orchid vines were first mentioned in Han Solo's Revenge, a novel written by Brian Daley in 1979. More precisions were given in A Guide to the Star Wars Universe, a sourcebook written by Raymond L. Velasco and released in 1994, and in The Essential Atlas, another sourcebook written by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry and released in 2009. Then, in 2011, Agent of the Empire – Iron Eclipse 1, a comic book written by John Ostrander and illustrated by Stéphane Roux, was published, featuring the orchard vine, also from the Corporate Sector. However, despite the possibility of a typo in the comic, the two plants have completely different appearances and share nothing in common – except perhaps their similar-sounding names.
