Armored crebiks were predatory arthropods native to Troos's subarctic forests. Their thick shells were heavy, and they hunted other arthropods by hanging from trees and falling on and crushing prey passing below.
Biology and appearance
Crebiks were a thick-shelled arthropod that lived in the trees of Troos. Due to their thick shells, they were virtually immune to attack from other predators. However, if their shells were damaged, crebiks could be infested by bahl flies which would crawl under the shell and feast on the soft inner flesh. Juvenile crebiks did not develop shells until the first year of their life and were very vulnerable to other species and adult crebiks.[1]
Behavior
They hunted smaller arthropods by hanging from a limb and dropping down directly on their prey, using weight and momentum to crack open the target's shell. If the impact didn't kill them, they would use their mandibles and pincers to finish it off. Once a year, crebiks would migrate to the nearest large body of water. There they would intake vast amounts of water, causing bladders just under their shells to expand and expose their bodies. The creatures would then engage in a mating dance and expel the water when done mating.[1]
