Countermeasures, also known as sensor countermeasures, were a collection of methods and technology that were designed to hide a starship's presence. Sensor-stealth systems were installed on ships and were capable of electronically muffling the energy signature from the craft's weapons, engines, or power generators.[1]
Sensor jammers flooded the area around a starship with static and random signals in an effort to interfere with enemy sensors. Sensor decoys were also used to duplicate the energy signals from a starship, effectively making it appear that there were two identical vessels.[1]
Aside from these technological methods, a ship could shut down all of its power systems and "run silent", effectively drifting in space until the chance of detection had passed.[1]
