Class A-4

Class A-4 was a promotion granted by Queen Leia of Aquilae for the droids Artwo and Threepio following the destruction of the Imperial space fortress.

Behind the scenes

The idea of a reward for the droids drops out of the draft scripts to Episode IV, though Lucas did not wholly abandon the idea. In his background notes composed for licensees in 1977, he states that C-3PO was given a XB21 memory system and a refurbishment, and R2-D2 was cleaned and repaired with new parts following the Battle of Yavin.
