The Ciratu Spheres were a group of six spherical objects which orbited the star Ciratu[1] in the Ciratu system, which was a part of the Immerian Outback sector[3] in the Expansion Region[1] and Trailing Sectors,[2] far from any trade routes. Composed of rock and iron, each sphere was filled with twisting tunnels. It was rumored that some scouts who had ventured into the spheres discovered wondrous machinery, while others were mysteriously altered by processes they could not remember. Some scouts were said to have never returned at all. It was widely believed that the spheres were created by the ancient race known as the Celestials.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Ciratu Spheres were originally meant to be mentioned in the 2012 source book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart, however the sidebar that would have mentioned the Spheres was cut before the book's release. The information regarding the Spheres was then released in 2013 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog by Jason Fry and Erich Schoeneweiss containing various cut content from the Essential Guide to Warfare.[1] An update to the StarWars.com Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, written by Daniel Wallace and Fry, placed the Ciratu system, and therefore the Ciratu Spheres, in grid square N-14.[3]
